Title: AERIAL VIEW OF MALÉ IN THE MALDIVE ISLANDS
Caption: A seawall surrounds most of Malé, capital of the Maldives. Constructed to protect the island from waves up to 2 m (7 ft.) high, the seawall cost about $4,000 per square meter. Seawalls have been built on only a few of the 1192 islands that make up this country. Approximately 80 percent of the land area of the Maldives is less than a meter above mean sea level.
