AERIAL VIEW OF TEMPORARY REPAIR OF BREACHED FLOODWALL AND LEVEE ON NEW ORLEANS' 17TH STREET CANAL |
| Caption: |
Army helicopters lowered white sand bags to temporarily fill this breach in the floodwall and levee along the 17th Street drainage canal. The failure, caused by the Hurricane Katrina storm surge, occurred at a water level lower than the design limit for the structure. Both faulty design and incomplete geotechnical information may have been responsible for the failure. (© Bob McMillan, FEMA Photo) |
