Title: HURRICANE WINDS DAMAGE SUPERDOME ROOF
Caption: The National Weather Service estimates that New Orleans experienced sustained winds of 110 to 125 km (70 to 78 mi.) per hour with gusts of up to 190 km (120 mi.) per hour during Hurricane Katrina. High winds tore two gaping holes in the Superdome roof, letting rain in, but not threatening the safety of thousands of people who had taken refuge there. (Jocelyn Augustino/FEMA)
