Title: LOOP CURRENT AND EDDY VORTEX IN GULF OF MEXICO
Caption: Map showing location and direction of the Loop Current and the Eddy Vortex, a warm-core eddy, in September 2004 when Hurricane Rita crossed the Gulf of Mexico. This image is based on radar altimeter measurements of the sea surface made by the NASA Topex/Poseidon and Jason satellites. Red areas show highest sea surface elevation and thus the warmest ocean water. (Modified from image NASA/JPL/University of Colorado-CCAR)
