The Coriolis effect can be demonstrated using a 1-hour flight of a rocket traveling from the North Pole to the equator. (a) If Earth were not rotating, the rocket would travel straight to the equator. (b) Because of Earth's rotation of about 15° each hour, the rocket appears to follow a curved path when plotted on Earth's surface, and it is deflected to the right of its intended target.
